Warriors Survive Kings, Advance to Play Lakers in Round 2

Golden State Keeps Title Defense Alive Behind Curry's Record-Breaking Game 7 Performance

Sacramento, Calif. — October 18, 2023

The Sacramento Kings' run in the 2024 NBA Play-In Tournament came to an end on Tuesday night, as the Golden State Warriors roared to a 118-107 victory in a thrilling Game 7 matchup.

Despite a valiant effort from the Kings, Golden State's three-time NBA champion, Stephen Curry, proved to be simply too much to handle. Curry erupted for a Game 7 record-breaking 50 points, including the game-winning 3-pointer with just over a minute remaining.

The win sends the Warriors to the second round of the NBA playoffs, where they will face off against the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers, who finished the regular season with the league's best record, advanced to the second round with a 4-2 series victory over the Utah Jazz.

The Warriors' victory was a tale of two halves. In the first half, Sacramento came out firing and took a 10-point lead into the break. However, the Warriors stormed back in the second half, outscoring the Kings 62-43. Curry was a major catalyst in the comeback, scoring 28 of his 50 points in the second half.

The Kings put up a valiant fight, with DeAaron Fox leading the scoring with 27 points. Domantas Sabonis added 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Harrison Barnes chipped in with 18 points.

But in the end, it was Curry's brilliance that proved to be the difference maker. The two-time NBA MVP hit 20-of-38 from the field, including 8-of-18 from 3-point range. He also dished out 7 assists and grabbed 6 rebounds.

The Warriors now advance to the second round of the playoffs, where they will face a tough test in the Lakers. The Lakers are led by three-time NBA champion LeBron James, who is averaging 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game this season.
