A New Era of Hockey in Austin

Get Ready for the Inaugural Season of Longhorn Hockey!

The University of Texas is proud to announce the launch of its official men's ice hockey team. The Longhorns will compete in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Division I, the highest level of college hockey outside of the NCAA. The team will be led by head coach Mario Lucia, a former NHL player and coach with over 30 years of experience. "We are excited to bring Division I hockey to Austin," said Lucia. "We have a great group of players and staff, and we can't wait to get started." The Longhorns will play their home games at the Chaparral Ice Center in southwest Austin. The season begins on October 15th, with the team hosting the University of Texas at Dallas Comets. "We are thrilled to have men's ice hockey at UT," said Chris Del Conte, Vice President and Athletics Director at The University of Texas. "This is a great opportunity for our students to compete at the highest level of college hockey, and we are confident that the Longhorns will be a success both on and off the ice."
