Mpox Monkeypox Cases Rise in the UK

36 New Cases Confirmed, Bringing Total to 57

World Health Organization Declares Global Health Emergency

The number of confirmed monkeypox cases in the UK has risen to 57, with an additional 36 cases reported by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The virus, which is typically found in Africa, has been spreading globally in recent weeks.

The UKHSA says the new cases have been detected in England, Scotland, and Wales. The majority of cases have been in men who identify as gay or bisexual, but the virus can spread to anyone who has close contact with an infected person.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared monkeypox a global health emergency, the highest level of alert the organization can issue. The WHO says the outbreak is "an unusual and unexpected spread of monkeypox cases" and is urging countries to take steps to prevent further transmission.
